In this blog post, I share a five-step fresh-scented hygiene routine. I share five steps you can follow in your hygiene routine while recommending Kenyan products or products you can easily find locally to use, to achieve that fresh/clean scent. If you’re curious to know what it entails, keep reading.
Step One: First Cleanse with an unscented/ mildly-scented soap bar
The first step in your fresh-scented hygiene routine is starting your first cleanse with an unscented/mildly-scented soap bar. For this step, I highly recommend the Pears Pure & Gentle Soap Bar. This soap bar is mildly-scented, thoroughly cleans your body, and doesn’t strip your skin dry. Another cool feature of this soap is that it’s a transparent bar, meaning the more you use it, the more transparent it gets and you can see right through it. Okay, perhaps this doesn’t play an important role, but it’s pretty cool right?
To cleanse, get your cotton washcloth, lather the soap on it while running it under warm water, then clean your entire body, paying close attention to where your skin folds (neck, armpits, between the toes, etc.). After covering everywhere, rinse off with warm water.

Step Two: Second Cleanse with a Fresh/Clean Scented Body wash/Shower Gel
Yes, you read that right, you will be cleansing your body, again. The purpose of the first cleanse is to get rid of any dirt, sweat, or bacteria from your body, the second cleanse is to make you smell nice. Hence, the scented body wash. For a fresh scent, I recommend the Yenbu Yogurt & Vanilla shower gel. It is rich, and moisturizing and leaves a lasting lovely fresh vanilla scent on your skin.
For a certain scent to stick, you ought to layer similar fragrances from your body wash, to your perfume, hence the desired scent will last longer.
For this step, use the shower gel and an African Net Cloth or Exfoliating Gloves. The exfoliating properties of the African Net Cloth/Exfoliating Gloves will ensure the scent lasts longer on your skin. After this, rinse off then dry yourself with a clean body towel.

Step Three: Moisturize your skin with Nice & Lovely Yellow/ Vaseline Aloe Soothe Lotion
After you’ve dried off, it’s time to replace the moisture that may have been lost when cleaning, back to your skin. For this fresh-scented hygiene routine, I would recommend using the Nice & Lovely Lemon Extract & Sunflower lotion, or the Vaseline Aloe Soothe lotion. These two lotions have made it on my list of ten amazing beauty products to start your 2025 right for good reason. They both have a fresh and clean scent, soothing to the nose and, they do exactly what a good lotion is supposed to do for your skin, moisturize. If you want to carry a clean scent, I recommend these two.

To further enhance the fresh scent, boost moisturization, and make your skin soft and glowy, you could apply the Vaseline Aloe Vera Scented Petroleum Jelly then top it off with the Ballet Baby Oil. The Vaseline further enhances the fresh scent, and the baby oil seals the moisture and makes your skin glow!

Step Four: Deodorant
Imagine doing all that work and forgetting the one step that will probably throw off the clean/fresh scent you’re looking to walk around with if you miss it.
That’s why you ought to remember to apply deodorant/antiperspirant to your armpits. This will ensure that despite sweating, you or your clothes won’t smell like it.
For this step, I recommend the Garnier Even AntiPerspirant Roll-on. The beauty of this deo is that it’s not only one of the most affordable deos (it’s only Ksh.350!) but also evens your armpits after consistent use. At least I have observed that after using it for a while.

Step Five: Fragrance/Perfume
Finally, the best part, choosing the best clean/fresh fragrance to top off your fresh-scented hygiene routine. An important tip to remember is that perfume cannot mask bad hygiene. Hence why we started from the shower to moisturizing to applying deodorant. A clean and moisturized base will ensure your perfume lasts longer and enhances its projection.
Perfume application is also an art. Apply a few spritzes on your pulse points. Your pulse points are areas on your body where you can feel your pulse. This includes behind your ears, your wrists, your neck, inside your elbows, behind your knees, and even your ankles. These are areas where blood vessels are closest to the skin, so heat is generated and the fragrance molecules from the perfume diffuse thus the scent has a stronger projection, and lasts longer.
Original, good quality perfume ain’t cheap, so we ought to find ways to get the most out of it.
The clean/fresh-scented perfume I can recommend is the Yves Saint Laurent Mon Libre. This perfume is widely known and loved. When you spray this, you literally smell like freshly printed money notes!
I do understand that the price is quite high. As I continue to explore various fragrances, I will look for and possibly discover amazing yet affordable fragrances that are clean/fresh. ;).
It gives clean, rich, old-money vibes and it’s one of my favorites!

In conclusion, if you like smelling clean/fresh or are experimenting with different scents, following this routine is a great place to start.
