It’s been about three months since I relaxed my hair, and I am happy to report that the journey is going quite well.

In the first post of my healthy relaxed hair journey, I shared that before I relaxed my hair, I had had artificial locs for about 6 months, intending to leave my hair alone to grow and be healthy enough to relax. However, after I took down the artificial locs, my hair was unhealthy and I lost a lot of volume.

Despite the heartbreak, I went on a quest to slowly and intentionally nurture my hair back to health and still went ahead to relax it anyway. After relaxing it in September, I have been nurturing and taking care of this hair like a baby!

Glad to say that it has paid off! This is how my hair looks like three months in.

3-Month Hair Growth Update

Of course, I’d like to add value to you, by sharing my current healthy relaxed hair regimen, which has clearly worked, as you can see. Whether your hair is relaxed or natural, I believe the tips I share today will be of benefit to you, if you are looking to have healthy hair.

I will be sharing the exact routine I follow when I wash my hair, which  I do every two weeks. So, let’s get into it.

Step 1: Detangling hair using a wide-toothed comb

The first step as part of my healthy relaxed hair journey wash day, is detangling my hair with a wide-toothed comb. All that this step entails is passing the comb through my hair strands. Considering I have relaxed hair, and my hair is finely textured, this step is very easy.

The aim is to remove any tangles your hair may have which will make the next steps much easier and also reduce breakage. After this, I separate my hair into two or four sections. Separating your hair during wash days makes it much easier to handle, and clean your scalp and reduces the instance of tangling.

Step 2: The first shampoo wash

Step number two of my healthy relaxed hair journey is wetting my hair with warm water, applying shampoo, and using a scalp massager to massage and clean my scalp as well as lathering up the shampoo so that I don’t use too much.  A scalp massager helps to stimulate the scalp, which leads to better scalp health and healthy hair growth. It also ensures the scalp is thoroughly cleaned.

After working on each section, I rinse off.

Step 3: The second shampoo wash and towel dry

Just like double cleansing the body, as I elaborated on my 8-step shower routine post, the same principle applies to your hair. A second shampoo wash will thoroughly clean your scalp and hair. After this, rinse off with warm water.

Wrap a soft towel or lesso on your hair to dry it. I got mine from Wrapped Nation. It’s very soft and absorbent. You could also use a cotton T-shirt for this step. Avoid using a towel with rough fibers, as they may get tangled with your hair strands leading to breakage.

Step 4: Deep conditioning

After my hair is more dry but still damp, I get my deep conditioner and apply it all over my hair. I also section my hair for this step, to ensure that I apply the deep conditioner on every hair strand. I then wear a shower cap and leave the deep conditioner on my hair for about an hour.

Step 5: Rinse off deep conditioner and blow dry

Step five of my healthy relaxed hair routine is rinsing off the deep conditioner and blow drying.

I rinse off the deep conditioner from my hair with warm water, ensuring all the product is fully rinsed out. I then apply leave-in conditioner through my strands.

After this, I get my blow dry, minus the comb attachment, and pass it through my hair at medium heat temperature.

The leave-in conditioner keeps your hair moisturized and reduces the occurrence of tangles. Keeping the heat medium instead of hot preserves the health of your hair. Excess heat leads to breakage.

Step 6: Scalp Care and Final Blow Dry

To moisturize my scalp, I usually use the Nice and Lovely Almond Oil Hair Food and the virgin hair fertilizer. I believe the hair fertilizer is what has helped my hair grow the most, aside from the healthy practices I have shared above. To my surprise, this thing works!

Since I blow dry my hair section by section, I do the same when moisturizing my scalp. I mix the nice and lovely hair food, and virgin hair fertilizer at the back of my hand, then separate the hair into smaller sections and apply the mixture.

After my whole head is covered, I get my scalp massager and massage it through my hair. This further stimulates blood flow, and hair growth and ensures my entire scalp is moisturized.

With the comb attachment and warm temperature setting, I run the blow dry through my hair. This final step is easy as my hair is completely dry, moisturized, and soft.

And, that’s it! This is all I do every two weeks!
